Happy Leap Day

When I was little, I used to hear "leap year" and think of playing leap frog. I can't wait to hear what my little one may have learned at school today about leap day.

I looked it up on wikipedia - just because I like trivia and interesting things. It said:
February 29 is a date that occurs only every four years, in years evenly divisible by 4, such as 1988, 1996, 2008 or 2016 (with the exception of century years not divisible by 400, such as 1900) for the Gregorian calendar, which is most widely used in the world today.

anything to do with math makes my head swim

but there's even more! who thinks of these things?
February 29 is a date that occurs only every four years, in years evenly divisible by 4, such as 1988, 1996, 2008 or 2016 (with the exception of century years not divisible by 400, such as 1900) for the Gregorian calendar, which is most widely used in the world today.

Although the modern calendar counts a year as 365 days, a complete revolution around the sun takes approximately 365 days and 6 hours. Every four years, an extra twenty-four hours have accumulated, so one extra day is added to that calendar to keep the count coordinated with the sun's apparent position.
who was the dude that counted the hours of the sun's revolution?

A century year, which ends in two zeros, is not a leap year unless it is also evenly divisible by 400. oops - it lost me at the word 'divisible'.This means that 1600 and 2000 were leap years, and 2400 and 2800 will also be, 1800 and 1900 were not, and the years 2100 and 2200 will not be leap years. To correct a slight inaccuracy that remains (it isn't exactly six hours extra), it has been proposed that years evenly divisible by 4,000 should not be leap years; but this rule has not been officially adopted.

A leap day is more likely to fall on a Monday than on a Sunday.not this year!! This is because the Gregorian calendar repeats itself every 400 years, which is exactly 20871 weeks including 97 leap days.
...stop...stop.....for the rest go look it up on wikepedia...seriously.

Speaking if time and numbers and making my head swim.... How many LOST fans are reading this? Did you see last night? The whole jumping-forward-in-time-but-only-your-concious? And psssttt - if you go to you tube you can search for the video about the Orchid Hatch. Play with the stop/stop, rewind thing and you will see some weird things.

We're doing the dinner date thing tonight. It's sort of a late anniversary night out b/c we had to wait until a date when this other couple could go with us. Yes, we are not allowed to eat out alone (just kidding). Outback, here we come.

I don't have anything new to show right now. Here's a couple of photos from my daughter's birthday party earlier this month. She was having such a good time with TEN of her friends (and parents) crowded in a room at one of the area game / activity places.

And one of her friends to her right was a bit "party blower happy" right in her face one too many time. Look at her face now.

Don't we all feel like that sometimes?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy birthday, not-so-little one :) Love the expressions! And leap day...figured out by someone with aspberger's? what other explanation could there be?? Interesting that there's still DEBATE on the issue and figuring out if that one other year in every 4000 or whatnot should count...Earth should be around so long!
